State Government’s Mission is to make women self-reliant: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Raksha Bandhan, the festival of love and bond was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety at the CM House on August 26. Women of all sections of the society and religion besides members of various social organization tied rakhi to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The Chief Minister extended rakhi greetings to all the sisters.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that the state government is working on a mission to make women self-reliant. Several steps have been taken in to make women self-dependent socially, economically and politically. Women have important contributions to the progress of the state. Many schemes have been started for women empowerment. It includes schemes like Ladli Laxmi, Kanya Vivah-Nikah, Gaon Ki Beti and Pratibha Kiran Yojana etc. Arrangement for 50 per cent reservation in local bodies, 50 per cent in teachers’ recruitment and 33 per cent in other government services has been made in the state for women. Women self-help groups are being strengthened further. Madhya Pradesh is the first state in the country, which has enacted a law to give death punishment to convicts for committing a heinous crime with girls. Efforts for women empowerment will be continued further. The Chief Minister appealed that suggestions should be given for women empowerment to the state government.
